Dexter Fact Sheet

Dexter is a custom developed, automated data retriever for obtaining criminal records from official government repositories. This process is sometimes referred to as "screen scraping" but Dexter is not attempting to extract all data from the website. Dexter only searches for a record in response to your specific order. To accomplish the data extraction, Dexter does not use artificial intelligence or machine learning. It is specifically programmed to bring you the data you are seeking, real time, from up-to-the-minute court files.

Dexter is designed specifically for screening organizations that are looking to streamline their criminal records check process. Instead of using employees to access online data sites or sending court runners to courthouses, you can employ Dexter to automatically complete these searches and eliminate the potential for human error, always delivering accurate, real-time data.

Dexter can search over 1000 web-based criminal county courts (upper and lower), statewide repositories and some jail records. New sites are added continuously. Plus, any site not currently available can be quickly added.

    • Eliminates the labor and materials involved in printing hits, typing them into your platform, send your report back to the customer, as well as the need to secure and then shred paper documents.
    • This is especially nice for sites like: MI Statewides (ICHAT) because Dexter reads the results from the .gif file ICHAT returns and puts them in a standardized text format for XML or copy/paste; And PA counties where we convert their .pdf to standard Dexter text format.
  6. In the search results, customer can select, with a simple click, which portion of the results they want to use to create the final report.
    • Great for those states or for end-users where you can only report 7 years, or those who do not want certain hits (like traffic, nolle pross, etc.).
  7. For sites with court fees, Dexter will store your credit card or account information so you don't have to manually enter that data every time you order.
  8. Easy to define the scope of your search on Dexter. You can order:
    • Using one of several DOB variables.: Exact DOB; Plus/minus up to 99 months from the actual DOB; And No DOB (Dexter will alert you if the site requires a DOB)
    • With or without middle name, Race, Gender, or SSN (unless required by jurisdiction).
    • With middle name, limiting search to only middle initial.
    • Limiting number of letters in the first name to search on.
  9. Dexter never does data entry incorrectly, never mistypes or misspells a name, never "types" first or last name in the wrong field.
  10. Dexter always searches the jurisdiction desired (e.g. your ordering clerk can't accidentally be on the wrong website when they do the search).
  11. Dexter can search common substitute names at a small extra cost (Richard, Dick, Rick, Ric, Rich, Richie, Richy, Dickie, Dicky).
  12. Dexter never goes on vacation, takes a sick day, has to be fired or hired, or trained, re-trained, quality-controlled, or bought lunch on its birthday. No 401(k), no FICA, no Medicare, no workers comp, no supervisor, no healthcare insurance, no life insurance, no disability insurance, no FMLA, no vacation, is never late to work or hung over or angry at their boss or having a distracting chat with their neighbor or developing carpal tunnel syndrome. Dexter guarantees to be a more accurate search than a human to the extent that Dexter will credit your account with 50 free searches if you report to us an error (that is, what Dexter reports is different from what you would find doing a human search of the court's current on-line data).
